iOS 11.3 has resolved many of the problems that Apple was facing with its phone issues. The battery settings have expanded to let users check their battery health, expressed in a percentage, and turn off the slowdown that would come with a sluggish battery.
The iOS update comes on the heels of the realizations of the company’s intentional slowing down of older batteries. Apple recognized its mistake and assured users this was not done to force users into planned obsolescence – where iPhone users would have to purchase newer phones and upgrades. We at Zohmo.com want you to look a bit deeper into this problem and see why our iPhone X battery cases are the perfect solution to this problem.
Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, put it this was in an interview back in January, "When we did put it out, we did say what it was, but I don't think a lot of people were paying attention. Maybe we should have been clearer as well, and so we deeply apologize for anybody that thinks we had some kind of other motivation."
To make up for this, Apple is offering battery replacements of $29.00 instead of the usual $79.00. This means long lines at the Apple store and could be hurting iPhone sales, including sales of the iPhone X.
Apple has gotten lots of negative publicity from various governments because of the iOS issue. Many have started lawsuits and some class action suits.
Countries like France, Italy and South Korea have started investigations into the problem, citing the planned obsolescence. This is particularly worrisome in France because jail time and fines are possible for planned obsolescence.
Here in the U.S., the Senate commerce committee asked specifically about the battery slow down. The only response? A letter from Apple offering rebates on aging batteries.
"As we said publicly, we have never -- and would never -- do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades," wrote Cynthia Hogan of Apple. "Our goal has always been to create products that our customers love, and making iPhones last as long as possible is an important part of that."
